Redbirds Welcome Rick Reinhart As New Head Football Coach
Reinhart steps up to lead Alton High Redbirds after serving as assistant coach, bringing extensive experience and leadership to the football program.
ALTON — The Alton School District has appointed Rick Reinhart as head football coach after reviewing more than 20 applications, the district announced. The district said Reinhart, who served as an assistant coach last year, will lead the Alton High School Redbirds as the program begins a weight training program next week.

The district said Reinhart brings head coaching experience from Civic Memorial, Marquette and Collinsville along with “a deep knowledge of the game and a passion for developing student athletes both on and off the field.” He was also a head coach at Fairfield and Tuscola.
The district said his coaching philosophy is grounded in “high expectations, accountability and a steadfast commitment to helping student athletes reach their goals,” and that his values align with the district’s mission.
Reinhart “is no stranger to the program,” the district said, citing his time as an assistant coach last year. During that period, the district said, he demonstrated “leadership, integrity and a dedication to building positive relationships with our players and staff.”
The district also said his reputation in the region will help recruit and retain assistant coaches and strengthen the program.
The district highlighted Reinhart’s career honors, including multiple Silver Helmet Awards, Coach of the Year recognition from the St. Louis Coaches Association, and recognition as a top program leader by the Lombardo Chapter. The district said he is a member of the Illinois Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame and “the 48th coach in Illinois football history to reach 200 career wins.”
The district said Reinhart has made 10 playoff appearances as a head coach and five as an assistant coach.
The district encouraged returning and aspiring Alton High School football players to participate in the weight training program beginning next week and said it is looking ahead to the upcoming season under Reinhart’s leadership.
