SOUTH ROXANA – A church in South Roxana is set to gain a solar energy system after recent permit approval.
Village Board members voted 5-1 on June 2, 2026 to approve a special use permit for an accessory solar energy system for Connect Church, located at 1417 Herbert St.
When the item came up for a vote, Board Member Tammy Adams asked why the solar energy system couldn’t be installed on the building itself. Mayor TJ Callahan said the building cannot support the weight of the solar panels. Instead, the church plans to install ground-mounted solar panels on the church grounds.
Anna Broadfoot cast the sole vote against approving the special use permit, saying that while she understands the building can’t support the panels, she would prefer to avoid the installation taking up space on the ground.
With the board’s approval, the ground-mounted solar installation is set to move forward on the church property.
