Edwardsville Police Join Torch Run for Special Olympics

EDWARDSVILLE - Members of the Edwardsville Police Department participated on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The officers carried the torch, traveling from the Montclaire Shopping Center on Troy Road to Busey Bank on West Vandalia Street in Edwardsville, before stopping at Busey Bank, according to the department.

The department said the runners were led by a police patrol vehicle.

The Edwardsville Police Department described the event as “an important and wonderful cause that’s been long supported by law enforcement in Edwardsville and throughout the nation.”

Officials said Edwardsville Police officers participating in the city’s portion of the torch run included Officer Ryan Cross, Sgt. Justin Towell, Deputy Chief Mike Lybarger, and Officer Keith Scruggs.

“We’re proud to participate and appreciate your patience as our team makes its way along our portion of the trek,” the department said.

The department also said official Torch Run shirts are available, with proceeds benefiting Illinois Special Olympics athletes.
