Stillwater Senior Living Male Athlete Of The Month: Connor Schaefer Puts Warrior Baseball Team First

EDWARDSVILLE - Connor Schaefer is a rising junior pitcher and outfielder for the baseball team at Granite City High School, and he is hopeful for a good season ahead for both himself and the Warriors.

Schaefer is a Stillwater Senior Living Male Athlete Of The Month for the Warriors.

Schaefer progressed during the 2026 campaign for the Warriors, and the future looks very bright.

Schaefer emphasized the team aspect of the game in an interview during the season after a game against Edwardsville.

"We're trying to play as a team," Schaefer said that day. "Obviously, (Edwardsville) is a good team, and we're trying to play together and do as well as we can."

"We just have to play as a team. That's really all. It really came together better during the season. We'll get there in the future."

Going in against the Tigers in a previous game, as he does at all times, Schaefer is a consummate team player, doing whatever needs to be done to help.

"I was just trying to play for my team," Schaefer said. "I try not to think about it as a personal thing, but I try to play as a team, do everything for my team, and when I went out on the mound, I've just got to do it all for them."

His pitching performance against the Tigers on that particular day was a good one in three innings of work.

"I try my best every time out," Schaefer said. "It's not easy, but we do what we can for the team."

As one might expect, Schaefer's goals and aspirations for himself and Granite are team-oriented.

"I think we're going to get stronger, too, in the future," he said.

Schaefer is confident that things will continue to turn around for the Granite City team in 2027, after some doldrums in previous years.

"Yeah, I think we'll get there," Schaefer said. "We will just keep practicing and play hard in games, and we'll be good."
