Katie Woods Is Headed To McKendree University To Play Tennis; She Caps Edwardsville Career With State Doubles Run
The Edwardsville standout closed her high school tenure with a fifth-place finish at the IHSA Class 2A state tournament and another major boost to the Tigers' team success.
EDWARDSVILLE - Katie Woods is a standout tennis player from Edwardsville High School whose career was highlighted by a fifth-place finish in state doubles, multiple postseason titles, and a college commitment to McKendree University.
Woods has been featured prominently on Riverbender.com and EdGlenToday.com for her achievements in both singles and doubles play. Most recently, this past spring, she partnered with sophomore Albina Selimi to finish fifth in state doubles at the IHSA Class 2A State Tournament, a result that helped Edwardsville place eighth overall as a team.

Woods and Selimi lost closely to Hinsdale Central (6-3, 6-4) at state, then had strong performances against Glenwood North, winning 6-2, 6-0. In the third round, Woods-Selimi defeated Highland Park's Gabrielle Gold and Aidan Stolze 6-3, 6-3.
Woods' success also included a sectional singles title and regular-season victories against local rivals. She was a catalyst for Edwardsville's girls team success in 2025.
She now moves on to McKendree University. Woods finished her Edwardsville career as a four-time state qualifier and two-time Southwestern Conference Player of the Year. She ranks sixth all-time in wins with 149 and earned First Team All-Conference honors in all four years.
Her dedication and competitive drive helped lead to the fifth-place state doubles finish in her final season and will no doubt translate to excitement in her continued tennis career at McKendree University.
