Blockbuster Trade: Cards Deal May, Ramero, To Brewers For Ragsdale and Frias
Cardinals obtain two rising prospects in Milwaukee Brewers organization at trade deadline.
ST. LOUIS - The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring right-hander Dustin May and left-hander JoJo Romero from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for prospects, adding two pitchers who can become free agents after this season.

The deal brings to Milwaukee a starter in May and a reliever in Romero as the Brewers bolster their pitching staff. Both players are in their seventh major league season.
The Brewers outfield prospects are Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale.
May, 28, is 5-7 with a 4.38 ERA in 109 innings over 21 starts this season, with 106 strikeouts and 35 walks. He was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox at last year’s trade deadline.
Over seven MLB seasons, May is 24-27 with a 3.99 ERA and 403 strikeouts.
Romero, 29, has a 3.35 ERA in 44 appearances this season and has closing experience. He has not pitched since July 12 because of an abdomen injury.
In seven major league seasons, Romero is 16-14 with 84 holds, 12 saves, a 3.51 ERA and 226 strikeouts in 235 2/3 innings.
Ragsdale, 22, is also batting .316 with 19 home runs and 51 RBI in Class AA baseball. He was a seventh-round draft pick from Boston College.
Frias won't turn 19 years old until March 2027, and he has a .342 batting average with eight home runs, 19 steals in 60 games in Class A baseball across the Arizona Complex League. Frias was born in Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic.
