Dana-Thomas House In Springfield To Host Volunteer Open House Aug. 20
The event will introduce volunteers to docent, beautification and special-event roles at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed historic site.
SPRINGFIELD – Community members can learn about volunteer opportunities at the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site in Springfield during a volunteer open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
The open house will introduce prospective volunteers to a variety of opportunities at one of the largest and oldest homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the United States. Volunteers are needed to serve as docents, assist with site beautification projects, and help with special events throughout the year.

Volunteers play a vital role in welcoming visitors from around the world and helping preserve one of Illinois' most significant historic sites. Opportunities are available for high school students seeking service hours, as well as adults and seniors interested in giving back to their community. Because the site hosts regular evening programs and special events, volunteer shifts are available both during regular business hours and into the evening.
Volunteer coordinator Lauren Gleason will provide an overview of the volunteer program, followed by an opportunity to meet site staff and current volunteers to learn about their experiences and a tour the historic home. The history and architectural significance of the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site also will be explained.
Volunteer benefits include invitations to special events, educational opportunities, and the chance to become part of a welcoming community dedicated to preserving Illinois history.
