Illinois Reaches Record FAFSA Completion Rate, Ranks No. 2 Nationally

CHICAGO – Governor JB Pritzker’s education initiatives have led Illinois to a record-high completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The state now ranks #2 nationally for FAFSA completion.

In 2019, Gov. Pritzker signed into law a statewide FAFSA mandate, which requires Illinois public high school students to complete a financial aid application or submit a waiver. In 2025, Gov. Pritzker enacted legislation requiring public high schools to have a designated point of contact for FAFSA and provide assistance on financial aid forms during school hours.

Gov. Pritzker is committed to helping Illinois high school students afford college and achieve success in their postsecondary careers. That’s why he is fighting every day to expand access to financial aid resources and provide new opportunities to further their education.
