First Responders Receive Heartfelt Tribute From Maryville Christian Students
Students recognized local police and emergency personnel with handmade cards, food and prayer as the community prepared to mark 25 years since 9-11.
MARYVILLE/ALTON - Prior to Patriot Day on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, that marks the anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy 25 years ago, Maryville Christian School students showed appreciation for local first responders at the school in Maryville on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026. The students delivered handmade cards, food and a thank-you basket during events described by the school as taking place this morning and this afternoon to thank those who serve and protect the school and communities.

The Alton Police Department took part in the visit, saying second grade classes presented handmade cards, a basket filled with snacks, drinks and protein bars, and took time to pray for officers and other local first responders during a special chapel service.
“Today, our MCS students had the opportunity to show gratitude to the local first responders who serve and protect our school and communities,” Maryville Christian School said in a statement.
The school said second graders delivered handmade cards of gratitude and a special thank-you basket in the morning, followed by a time of prayer over local responders. High school students continued the effort in the afternoon by stopping by with food and thanks for their service, the school said.
“We are so grateful for the men and women who selflessly serve, protect, and care for those around them,” the school officials said. “Thank you for being a blessing to our communities and for the ways you serve others each and every day.”
The Alton Police Department thanked the students, staff and families at Maryville Christian School for thinking of local first responders.
“We truly appreciate the kindness and encouragement,” the Alton Police Department said. “Those small acts of gratitude mean a lot to the men and women who serve our community every day.”
