Alex Fox to Step Down as EHS Principal at End of 2026-27 School Year; Will Remain with District 7

Edwardsville High School Principal Alex Fox is addressing his future after leading the school since August 2024. His explanation connects a contract provision with time he wants to spend with family.

EDWARDSVILLE – Edwardsville High School Principal Alex Fox has announced that he will step down from his role at the conclusion of the 2026-27 school year. He will remain with District #7 in an administrative role.

Fox has served as the leader of Edwardsville High School since August 2024, first as interim principal and then as principal beginning with the 2025-26 school year. He has informed the district that he will not pursue the third-year option of his current principal contract.

“At the start of my time as principal, I requested that the third year of my contract be optional,” said Fox. “At the time, I was uncertain what my daughter’s softball playing career would look like, and I wanted the flexibility to experience those important moments with her without sacrificing my leadership responsibilities at EHS. While I understood that fulfilling the second year of my contract would mean missing her freshman year, I have come to realize that I don’t want to miss any more of those moments.”

Fox is in his 29th year with District #7, including his 14th year at EHS. Before his appointment as principal, Fox served as an assistant principal at EHS for four years, athletics director for six years and associate principal during the 2023-24 school year.

“Mr. Fox has made a real difference at Edwardsville High School,” said Superintendent Dr. Allen Duncan Jr. “He knows his students; he shows up for them, and they know he cares. At the same time, he has never lowered the bar. He expects the best from students and staff, and he gives them the support they need to reach those expectations. We respect his decision and are grateful for the leadership and commitment he has given to EHS.”
