Pruetzel Leads Marquette Catholic Back to IHSA Girls Golf Sectional
A third-place regional finish in Carlyle sends Marquette back to the IHSA sectional, with sophomore Maggie Pruetzel leading the way and another challenge ahead.
CARLYLE - The Marquette Catholic girls golf team earned its first IHSA sectional berth in five years Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, under Head Coach Jacob Simmons, finishing third at the regional at Governor’s Run Golf Course in Carlyle.
Marquette shot a team score of 334 to advance, finishing two strokes behind runner-up Breese Central at 332. Breese Mater Dei won the regional title with a 311.

Sophomore Maggie Pruetzel led Marquette with a 76, placing fourth individually. Seniors Kaylee Piar and Lexi Taylor each shot 83, while junior Covelynn Geisler posted a 92. Juniors Olivia Cummings and Mia Hoppe finished with scores of 97 and 100, respectively.
Marquette Catholic coach Simmons said the team is excited to advance to sectionals for the first time in years and is ready to play this upcoming Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.
The IHSA sectional will be held Monday at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River. The top three teams will advance to the IHSA state tournament in Decatur the following weekend.
