“I think there is a lot to learn from last night’s game,” Coach Grimm said.
Grimm said Civic Memorial maintained a solid lead without playing perfectly. But after Columbia scored a few points, some players began focusing on being perfect rather than playing well enough to win, he said.
He described the pressure against Columbia on Thursday night as a valuable learning experience and said players could learn those lessons only by experiencing them.
Grimm singled out senior offensive leader Addie Jeffery and sophomore Ava Chairney for their play. Jeffery finished with five kills in 12 attempts, while Chairney had three aces and five service points.
Both teams return to action Tuesday. Columbia hosts Freeburg at 7 p.m., and Civic Memorial hosts Breese Central.
