The Edwardsville High School NHS chapter represents a select group of students who have demonstrated excellence inside and outside the classroom. Under the sponsorship of Dr. Amanda Shoemaker, the chapter has developed a strong culture of service, leadership and community involvement.
Shoemaker has established student committees focused on identifying and responding to specific needs within the school and community, providing students with opportunities to turn leadership into action and make a difference.
Membership in the Edwardsville High School NHS is held to a high standard. Applicants complete a rigorous application and review process and must demonstrate the qualities expected of an NHS member. Academic achievement is one component of the process, along with character, service, responsibility, leadership and a commitment to serving others.
“Our students are truly exceptional. They consistently go above and beyond to excel - not only academically, but through their leadership, service, character and genuine care for others,” Shoemaker said. “It is a privilege to work alongside such talented and compassionate young people as they finish their time at Edwardsville High School. Watching them grow into confident leaders and seeing the impact they make in our school and community is one of the most rewarding parts of being their sponsor.”
The Chapter of Distinction Award recognizes NHS chapters that demonstrate strong leadership, effective operations and a commitment to the pillars of the National Honor Society.
“The NHS Chapter of Distinction Award celebrates chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for - students who don’t just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities,” said Ronn Nozoe, CEO of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. “The Edwardsville High School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change.”
