The drive will collect new and used textiles, including clothing, shoes, blankets, towels, sheets, curtains and other household items. Items are accepted regardless of condition, including those that are torn, stained or no longer suitable for everyday use.
“We are thrilled to bring the textile recycling drive back to Alton High School this year. This project is a fantastic opportunity for us to give back, and we know it will make a meaningful impact in our community. I encourage everyone to clean out their closets and linen cabinets—whether your old clothes, shoes, or linens are in perfect condition or torn and stained, we are happy to collect them all and put them to good use,” said Carter Stahl, a senior at Alton High School and president of the school’s FCCLA chapter.
Textiles collected during the drive will be sorted for reuse and recycling. Clothing and other items in good condition will be donated back into the community to help individuals and families in need. Items that are torn, stained or too worn to be reused will be ground down and recycled into filling for mattresses and furniture for people in need throughout the Metro East area.
“Repurposing unusable textiles by grinding them down into filling for furniture and mattresses isn't just a win for our community—it's a huge win for the environment. Clothing and fabrics can take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill. By giving these old textiles a second life, we keep waste out of our landfills while directly helping people in need,” Stahl said.
By accepting textiles in all conditions, the drive helps reduce landfill waste while supporting local families and giving unwanted materials a second life.
Community members can drop off their bagged textile donations at the **Alton High School softball/baseball parking lot, located at 4200 Humbert Road in Alton**. The baseball lot is on the left side of the main parking lot.
**Collection dates and times:**

All donated items must be bagged before drop-off. Accepted items include clothing, shoes, bedding, blankets, sheets, towels, curtains, pillows, comforters, tablecloths, rugs, stuffed animals, backpacks, purses, hats, scarves, gloves and more.
Alton High School FCCLA encourages residents throughout Alton and the surrounding communities to participate. Whether donating a single bag of clothing or several bags of household textiles, every contribution can help support local families and reduce waste.
For Alton High School FCCLA, the textile recycling drive is more than a collection event. It is an opportunity for students and community members to work together, support those in need and make a lasting positive impact throughout the Metro East.
