BELLEVILLE — A second volunteer recruitment fair on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, will seek people to staff the new Emergency Weather Overnight Center, which will shelter people who have no place to stay when temperatures fall to 20 degrees or below.
The fair will run from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at the McCormick Center, 301 S. First St. in Belleville. Prospective volunteers can tour the building and learn about the program and their responsibilities.

People seeking shelter will be screened and transported from the Salvation Army in Belleville. A hired guard will be stationed in the building.
“This is a way people can come together and provide an essential service for the community,” said Kara Moore, chairwoman of the Emergency Overnight Weather Center. “We’re especially asking that churches and civic groups take part in this valuable service.”
The City Council approved the emergency center’s opening in August.
The Catholic Diocese of Belleville owns the McCormick Center and is encouraging other cities in the area to provide similar services during the winter.
