Courtney A. Runion, of the 1400 block of 1st Street in Cottage Hills, faces a Class 2 felony charge for her second or subsequent offense of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender.
Runion is accused of failing to report on a quarterly basis in person with the Madison County Sheriff as required under the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Charging documents note Runion was previously convicted on Feb. 13, 2026, of violating the Sex Offender Registration Act, also in Madison County.
The Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry currently lists Runion as “non-compliant,” having last registered on Sept. 16, 2026.
In addition to her previous registration violation, the registry also notes Runion’s prior conviction of sexual exploitation of a then-15-year-old child while Runion was 24 years of age.
Runion was also previously charged on Sept. 1, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender in Madison County. In that case, she had reportedly failed to register with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office within three days after changing her residence.
The latest case against Runion was presented by the Alton Police Department, and she was ordered remanded to jail for her initial court appearance in this case.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
