“While watching 12- and 13-year-olds play football, violence erupted and gunshots rang out killing one, injuring three, and creating terror for hundreds,” Weinhoeft said in a statement.
The FBI established an online tip portal to collect photos and videos from the incident. Investigators are seeking all images and recordings, including those that do not show the shooting. Photos showing the crowd, clothing and faces could be critical to the investigation, according to the statement.
Area surveillance cameras captured many of the events, but investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying those involved.
The U.S. Department of Justice has directed all U.S. attorneys to ensure a rapid federal response to combat violent crime. Resources from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and U.S. Marshals Service have been directed to assist in the investigation.
“We don’t have to live like this. Law enforcement working with the community can bring this lawlessness to end. Please help us do so,” Weinhoeft said.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said it will continue working with law enforcement and Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
An FBI tip line was created to receive photos and videos from the incident. We are asking the public to share every video and every photo from the incident, even if it did not capture the actual shooting incident. Any photo showing the crowd, clothing and faces could be critical to this investigation. Many of the events are captured on area surveillance cameras, but we need the public’s help to identify those involved.
