As the principal at Lovejoy, Harrington is dedicated to supporting students and staff members every day. She collaborates with her colleagues to ensure students are successful, and she loves working together to help kids grow and learn.
“Leadership is a privilege. Being able to make a positive impact on students and staff is something I don’t take lightly,” Harrington said. “I appreciate all of our educators and staff at Lovejoy and throughout the district. Education is hard work, but it’s also heartwork, and I’m grateful to be part of a team that shows up for kids every day.”
Harrington grew up in the Alton Community Unit School District #11, and she loves the community here. She noted that working in the district has been “full of full-circle moments” as she collaborates with her former teachers and students as colleagues.
Alton’s Primary Principal Team also works together throughout the week. Harrington said it’s valuable to have a team that she can “bounce ideas off of, learn from, and turn to for advice and support.”
At Lovejoy, Harrington and her team recently introduced the “Flight Partner” initiative, because “At Lovejoy, No One Flies Alone.” Every student and staff member has a Flight Partner who knows them by name, notices when they are present or absent, and encourages them. This idea has done a lot to build the school’s culture of belonging.
Harrington added that she is proud of the staff and students at her school, who work hard every day. She is delighted to be part of such a strong team.
“The staff at Lovejoy are caring and dedicated educators,” she said. “They have a wealth of knowledge and experience and truly care about kids. They have given me a warm welcome and have been willing to embrace new initiatives that I’ve brought to Lovejoy. I’m grateful to work alongside a team that is committed to making a difference for our students.”
