Stillwater Senior Living Female Athletes Of The Month: Granite City Cheerleaders Bring Teamwork to Winter Gear Drive

GRANITE CITY - Granite City High School cheerleaders spent two hours recently sorting more than 4,500 pieces of donated cold-weather gear for distribution to schools and a community organization.

The items were delivered to all nine GCSD9 schools, along with Madison School District 12, Venice CUSD No. 3 and Coordinated Youth and Human Services.

The girls are Stillwater Senior Living Female Athletes of the Month.

The Granite City School District 9 thanked the cheerleaders for their massive efforts in sorting items donated by Aquarius, Ltd., H3 Sportgear, and San Diego Hat Co.

The volunteer effort extended the cheerleaders’ activities beyond home football and basketball games and their competition schedule. The program is led by head coach Jessica Thompson, who also teaches at Prather Elementary School.

The Warriors made their fifth program appearance at the Illinois High School Association State Tournament on Feb. 6, 2026, at Grossinger Motors Arena in Normal, Illinois.

The team’s activities have also included hosting an Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association qualifying event, attending clinics, and celebrating Senior Night and Homecoming.
