GODFREY — Access to North Alby Street at Humbert Road will temporarily close beginning Nov. 16, 2026, as crews complete the final portion of the village’s North Alby road repair and resurfacing project, officials said. Stutz Excavating, a subcontractor for the village, will close the access north of the railroad crossing at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2026. It is scheduled to reopen around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Godfrey Public Safety Administrator and Emergency Services Coordinator Chris Sichra said local fire, police and emergency medical services agencies, mutual aid companies, utility companies, school bus agencies and MCT have been notified so they can adjust their routes.
The closure is intended to address traffic safety concerns near the work area. Officials said there is little room north of the railroad tracks to accommodate stopped southbound traffic on North Alby. Vehicles could back up onto Humbert Road, with passing trains potentially extending delays and increasing safety risks.
Detour signs and digital kiosks will alert motorists to the closure and direct vehicles along Humbert Road past North Alby to Tolle Lane.
Officials advised residents and motorists to plan alternate routes during the closure.
