Alton High Names Schiber-Arciga New Boys Volleyball Head Coach
Schiber-Arciga, a Spanish teacher and former assistant coach, will lead the boys volleyball team in spring 2026 aiming to uplift the program's performance.
ALTON - Alton High School has named Jennifer Schiber-Arciga as the new head coach of its boys volleyball team for the spring 2026 season. Schiber-Arciga, who currently teaches Spanish at the school, previously served as the varsity assistant boys volleyball coach last year.
The announcement comes as Schiber-Arciga replaces Carsen Freeman, who stepped down after one season with a 9-20 record. The boys' volleyball team returns with a solid core of players and aims to improve on last year’s performance.

Chris Kusnerick, Alton High School’s athletic director, emphasized the value of having a teacher in a coaching role.
“Always great having a teacher as a coach on our staff, which in this day and age is becoming harder and harder to find,” Kusnerick said. “We are still an education-based program, and teachers understand that role that athletics can play in student-athletes' high school career.”
Kusnerick expressed optimism about the transition, given Schiber-Arciga’s previous experience with the team.
“We hope it will be an easy transition since she served in the role as an assistant boys coach in our program last spring,” he said.
He added that the school is “hoping Jennifer can provide the consistency that this program needs and the work ethic to raise the standard for our Redbirds in this program.”
