Midwest Members Credit Union Female Athlete Of The Month: Kaylynn Buttry Joins Elite 1,000-Point Club at East Alton-Wood River
In an emotional game, Kaylynn Buttry hit her 1,000th point, celebrated by teammates and coach Joe Sears during a home match on December 3, 2025.
WOOD RIVER — East Alton-Wood River senior Kaylynn Buttry reached a significant milestone on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, when she scored her 1,000th career point during a home basketball game against Staunton. Buttry, who scored 18 points in the game, became only the sixth girl in EAWR history to join the 1,000-point club.

The achievement was met with cheers from the gym as the game was paused to recognize Buttry’s accomplishment. EAWR coach Joe Sears presented her with a game ball following the milestone.
Buttry is a Midwest Members Credit Union Female Athlete Of The Month.
During the final quarter, Buttry’s teammates made a concerted effort to get her the ball to help her reach the mark. “It’s a really nice accomplishment. She’s the sixth girl in EAWR history to get it. It’s been four years of hard work for her to get there,” Sears said.
Buttry, who has played basketball since third grade, described the moment as emotional. “It was amazing. I have been waiting for that for a long time, and I did it. It means everything to do it here at EAWR, I love the coaches, my teammates, the staff; everyone is like family to me,” she said with tears of joy.
In addition to this milestone, Buttry’s junior year included a standout performance of 32 points against Bunker Hill, ranking as the sixth-highest single-game scoring output in Oiler girls basketball history.
Buttry balances her athletic pursuits with academics, maintaining a perfect GPA. She is also active in tennis, softball as an outfielder, and track.
Her passion for basketball is driven by the sport’s intensity and competitiveness.
