Spencer Homes Female Athlete Of The Month: Mia Semith Tops 1,000-Point Plateau, Has Had Remarkable Career With Tigers

EDWARDSVILLE - Mia Semith played her final regular-season home game on Feb. 12, 2026, and went out with a flourish, as the Edwardsville girls basketball senior guard scored 19 points to lead the Tigers to a 56-33 win over a vastly improved Granite City side at Lucco-Jackson Gym.

It's been a banner year for Semith, who led the team in scoring with 10.6 points-per-game, and in rebounding with a 4.9 rebounds-per game average. She also contributed 39 assists and 77 steals to the Tigers, who finished the regular season 13-14, and go into the playoffs as the number five seed in the region, meeting up with Quincy first in the IHSA Class 4A playoffs at home Feb. 16.

In a post-game interview after her final regular season game, Semith said she was very happy to have scored her 1,000th career point against Breese Central on Feb. 7 in the East Alton-Wood River Shootout, and also expressed gratitude for her coaches and teammates over the years.

"I'm so happy I was able to play at Edwardsville," Semith said. "I'm so thankful for all my teammates tonight, and I'm thankful that Lainey (McFarlin) and all of our seniors got to score tonight. We weren't sure if Lainey was going to be able to play tonight (McFarlin's first game since recovering from knee surgery); we're very thankful for that. And I'm thankful for all the girls I played with over the years, and all my coaches."

The 1,000 career points are a nice icing on the cake for Semith, both this season and for her career at Edwardsville.

"It is pretty nice," Semith said. "I play with a couple of those girls (from Breese Central) during AAU season. I was really excited, and it was a good place to have it, other than home, because I just got really excited; it was a shootout. It's a great feeling."

With the postseason ready to begin, Semith is feeling optimistic about the Tigers playing the Blue Devils again. Quincy knocked out the Tigers in the opening game last year in Granite City, and she's looking forward to the rematch.

"We're excited," Semith said. "They did beat us last year, but I think we have a chance; we can do it. We've been practicing really hard, and I think we've got a good shot at winning on Monday."

Semith is very optimistic that the Tigers can go on a long run in the playoffs.

"If we keep working hard, we should have a chance," Semith said of the playoffs.
