Spencer Homes Male Athlete Of Month: Miccah Butler Is Key Senior Player For Edwardsville Boys Basketball Team

EDWARDSVILLE - Miccah Butler, a senior shooting guard for the Edwardsville boys basketball team, is off to a tremendous start in the new season and is one of the key players for the Tigers in the 2025-26 season, where the team has started 4-2, and currently 1-1 in the Southwestern Conference.

In the first few games of the season, Butler is averaging 12.3 points and 0.5 rebounds per game, along with four assists and a steal. In a Dec. 5 game at East St. Louis, he led the team with 22 points, also scored 20 points in the season-opening game at Effingham St. Anthony Catholic, and hit a clutch three Dec. 9 against Belleville West in a win over the Maroons. Last season, he averaged 13.6 points and five rebounds-per-game, along with having 32 assists and 30 steals.

Butler is a Spencer Homes Male Athlete of the Month for the Tigers.

In an interview conducted recently, Butler felt the workouts went well, and was looking ahead to the new season.

"It's been going really good so far," Butler said. "The team's looking well-rounded, we're playing together, doing what coach (Dustin Battas) says, and we're just finding our rhythm right now."

He's very hopeful of having good things happen to himself and the Tigers in season 2025-26.

"Of course, a (Southwestern) conference championship, and a regional championship. That's on my bucket list, and just win games. We have to compete in every game, and just keep showing up, no matter what."

Butler very much enjoys competing against the teams in the Southwestern Conference, a highly competitive league that many feel is one of the best south of Chicagoland.

"Every conference game is really up for grabs," Butler said. "Everyone's good. It all comes down to possessions, playing hard, and playing together."

Butler is a sharpshooter from three-point range and has worked to improve other facets of his game as well.

"Of course, I have my shooting ability," Butler said. "I made 100 threes last year, but I've really adapted to playing on getting to the basket more, rebounding, and being in the right spot on defense. I've really grown in my IQ, finding the right people getting the right shots, and getting open shots."

Butler is indeed looking ahead to the new season and is very hopeful of many good things happening to him this year.

"Of course, more offers," Butler said, "first team all-conference; I hope to do that again, and all-state. That's my goals."
