Stillwater Senior Living Male Athletes Of Month: Granite City Warriors Boys Basketball Squad Secures Third Win of Season

GRANITE CITY - The Granite City Warriors boys basketball team is showing great potential with three wins already recorded early in the 2025-2026 season.

Granite City defeated Metro East Lutheran 58-39 on Thursday night, Dec. 4, 2025, at Granite City.

Granite City goes to 3-2, and plays Union, Mo. in the Norm Stewart Shootout at Mizzou Arena in Columbia Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at 2 p.m., then plays at home against Collinsville Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m., then plays McCluer High in Ferguson, Mo., Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m.

The Warriors are Stillwater Senior Living Male Athletes of the Month.

Jalen Hall led Granite City with 16 points, while Evan Brewer added 12 points as the Warriors used a 13-2 run in the third quarter to extend its lead in going on to a 58-39 win over Metro-East Lutheran Thursday night at Granite City Memorial Gym.

The Granite City varsity boys include: Kamarion Wells, Javier Cass, Xavier Harris, Antonio Dean, Tyler Moore, Hall, Kendal Cass, Carter Williams, Bobby Anderson, Noah Gossard, Johnnie Coleman, Devon Garrett and Brewer.

Coach Moore is also very optimistic about the remainder of the season for his players and believes the Warriors will be a vastly improved team.

"Hopefully, we can continue to build on this," Coach Gerard Moore said, "and just get better, game-by-game and week-by-week. And we'll be ready for the regional. This year, I've been blessed to have really good help. Coach (Chris) McCullough, and Mike Ash, and Will Cass. We've had a real good group of guys, and my daughter, Daya. has been helping us. So, it's been a lot of stress relief for me, because of the help we've had this year."

The Warriors are looking ahead to the game against Union in the home arena at Mizzou. "The kids are excited, I'm excited," Granite City head coach Moore said after the big win over MELHS. "I get to leave work early," he said with a laugh, "and watch basketball. So, how fun is that?"

The fact that the game will be at Mizzou Arena, in a Southeastern Conference arena, will be a major plus for Granite.

"We've got some kids who are planning on going down there for college," Moore said. "So this is like a second college visit. It's awesome because, obviously, it's a college campus. And a lot of the kids have idols of players at Mizzou. It's a big thing for our kids, and we're glad to have the opportunity to play down there. Hopefully, we can do well."

The rest of the 2025-2026 boys basketball season for these Warriors looks exceptionally bright under Coach Moore.
