CHARLESTON - Senior track and field star Tullio Zamperi is no stranger to statewide competitions, as he has represented the Eagles in both state track and field and cross country events. On Friday, May 29, 2026, Zamperi delivered a dazzling performance in the 800-meter prelims, posting a sixth-place time of 1:55.22.
Zamperi will join CM junior Glenn Collins in Saturday's finals race. Collins was the second-place qualifier in the prelims.

Tullio said, "I am so thrilled to get into the 800-meter final. I have really, really high expectations for tomorrow (Saturday). I am glad I made it through to the final; that was my goal. I am chasing an all-state spot on Saturday.
Zamperi said he was also thrilled with his personal best on the Eastern Illinois University blue track on Friday, posting a time of 1:55.22.
"It means the world to me to run with Glenn (Collins) in the finals," he added. "He is one of my good buddies, and it is ideal."
Tullio explained the atmosphere at the state track and field meet in Charleston with the following comment: "It is an awesome experience. You just have a whole other wave at the finish here."
