Christine Fovila on River Health, Native Plants and Local Earth Day Action

Sierra Club coordinator Christine Fovila joins According to Jama and Nikki for an Earth Day conversation about protecting local waterways, supporting pollinators and reconnecting with nature. She explains the work of the Piasa Palisades group’s Three Rivers Project across Madison, Jersey and Calhoun counties.

The discussion covers fertilizer runoff, cover crops, agricultural buffer strips, community gardens and the relationship between healthy soil, rivers and food systems. Fovila also discusses native plants, invasive species, ecological restoration and citizen-science projects involving birds, caterpillars and water quality.

Jama, Nikki and Fovila highlight ways residents can participate close to home, from hiking, camping and birding at places such as Beaver Dam State Park and the Audubon Center at Riverlands to litter cleanups, community planning and efforts to improve walkability in Alton.
